Derby's ideal home

Derby would like his new family to have had some experience with owning dogs, and ideally German Shepherds. Derby is a very sweet boy with people he knows but he does take his time getting comfortable with new people and until he is ready, he won't want lots of close handling. Derby would like to be the only pet in the home and his ideal location would be a quiet area where he won't see many dogs as he finds this frustrating. Derby is a big fan of chasing toys and carrying them around so would like an enclosed garden with a 6ft fence where he can run around and play. Someone should be around all the time at first to allow him to settle in properly. Please note that Derby is currently on medication for a medical condition which could be ongoing. Potential adopters should be aware that there will be a cost involved with this. If you rent your property, please ensure you have written permission from your landlord before applying for a dog.

Handsome boy Derby is a two-year-old German Shepherd who loves hanging out with his favourite people and playing with his toys. You'll always find him carrying something in his mouth, either a teddy or the biggest stick he can find out on a walk! Whilst with us he has learned lots of tricks, such as sit, paw, drop and wait and could easily learn more. Derby is a clever chap so teaching him something new using reward based training is a great way to build a bond with him. It will take a few meets to get to know Derby, but once you're in his inner circle, you'll get to see the lovable boy that we all know. Derby will need someone patient who is happy to follow the guidance from our Training and Behaviour Team to give him the best possible start in a new home.
